INSTALLER COMMENTS Steve Rayment, installation director

This steel dresser houses a bar and fl at-screen TV

Stained glass panels designed by Simon Taylor Furniture

This installation had a number of issues because the kitchen was being installed in a former stately home that had been converted into four separate, large apartments. There was a huge gas main in the property that had supplied the original house. This had an enormous shut-off lever that we had to build around in order to ensure it was still accessible. We then used a separate gas main that had been installed by the developer. The existing wooden fl oor was original and uneven and we had to

scribe all of the furniture in to allow for this. We also had to lift most of the fl oorboards in order to make alterations to all the services. We had to upgrade the electrical supply to cope with the heavy electrical loads of the Gaggenau appliances as the incoming main wasn’t powerful enough and we had to fi nd routes for the armour cabling, because the supply to the kitchen were at opposite ends of the very large house. We also had to ensure that none of the fl oorboards were damaged, as they comprised part of the listed property. In the kitchen, we designed a special end panel on the island to easily access all services for future maintenance. Then there were the high ceilings – we had designed and made

furniture to work with this, but fi tting the cornices was tricky because we weren’t able to touch the ceiling or fabric of the building.
