Analysis: How is the energy crisis affecting you and your suppliers? pg 34
The kbbreview interview: We speak to Lisa Lalor, MD of Neville Johnson pg 32
T EDITOR’S COMMENT
MONEY’S TOO TIGHT TO MENTION
hanks to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, people the world over are having to come to terms with increases in the cost of living. In the UK, of course, a major driver of those increases is the rocketing price of energy. But, as I’m sure you’re all too aware – these increases aren’t limited to homeowners. Anyone running a business will also be feeling the pinch. In fact, the energy crisis is in danger of rapidly turning into business crisis.
Our analysis [pages 34-35] looks at the wider economic implications of these high energy bills and how they are likely to affect you, your
showroom and, ultimately, your customers. It’s not all doom and gloom, though, I promise. Both our supplier
profi les this month highlight the importance and signifi cance many brands are putting on the independent retail sector these days. Falmec UK MD Sean Drumm, for instance, describes the appliance brand as “100% committed to independents” [pages 37-39] and Sofi a Charalambous, co-founder of bathroom accessories specialist, Origins Living, reveals how its bricks-and-mortar showroom network is driving its growth [pages 45-47]. Also, while perhaps not directly linked to independents, this month’s kbbreview interview [pages 32-33] is with Lisa Lalor, the MD of Neville Johnson Furniture. Although, as a direct-to-consumer, bespoke furniture brand, it sits on the periphery of our sector, she puts forward some interesting perspectives and areas of focus for KBB retailers to consider. As always, your feedback on these and any other topic covered in the issue is greatly appreciated. And, just in case the four-page cover wrap didn’t hammer the point home… you only have until November 17 to get your entries in for the 2023 Retail & Design Awards. Head to
kbbawards.co.uk for all the details.
