EasyJet owner brings legal case against Easy Bathrooms

THE PARENT company of the airline EasyJet has filed legal action against the retailer Easy Bathrooms, alleging that the company is liable for trademark infringement over its use of the word “easy”. According to legal news source Law360, EasyGroup has accused Easy

Bathrooms of trying to “pass off” its trademark, and argues it should be banned entirely from using the word “easy” in its business name and logo. EasyGroup was first established in 1998, and is now said to have over 200 business ventures operating under the “easy” company name, which includes companies such as easyBus, easyCamera and easyPetfood. The unrelated KBB retailer Easy Bathrooms is owned by parent company

Cubico, and was launched in Leeds in 2012. Since then, it has grown into a large bathroom retail chain, and has more than 100 stores around the country. Law360 has also reported that even though Easy Bathrooms’ services are

“dissimilar” to those of some its brands, EasyGroup still believes customers will create a cognitive link between the bathroom retailer and EasyGroup. The claim alleges that this would be “detrimental” to the conglomerate’s reputation. It has also been reported that EasyGroup has asked the High Court for “substantial” damages from the retailer.

John Lewis relaunches fitted kitchen service

ICONIC BRITISH department store John Lewis has relaunched its fitted kitchen service after it was forced to put it on hold, following the demise of its key supplier, Mereway, earlier this year. According to John Lewis it has been able to resurrect its kitchen offering after signing partnerships with two of the industry’s leading manufacturers, Symphony and Omega. The kitchen service will return to its Oxford Street, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Bluewater stores first, with a further 25 department stores to follow suit before the end of the year. The ranges, John Lewis Editions and John

Lewis Elements, are said to offer customers a wide choice of kitchen styles and prices, and

are supported by a 10-year guarantee. Marissa Woodley, category lead for John Lewis Fitted Kitchens, said: “We’ve been selling fitted kitchens for over 70 years, so know what customers want - and bring all our skills and experience to every design. We are really excited to be working with our new

suppliers to launch two new ranges, which offer something for everyone.” November 2024 kbbreview 5
