Avidyne CEO Dan Schwinn Receives Richard
G. McSpadden Aviation Safety Award
Avidyne Corporation recently announced that the AOPA Air Safety Institute has awarded Avidyne CEO Dan Schwinn with the Richard G. McSpadden General Aviation Safety Award.

“Dan’s leadership and dedication to advancing cockpit technology has had a lasting impact on general aviation,” said Mike Ginter, senior vice president of the AOPA Air Safety Institute. “From introducing glass-panel avionics to enhancing real-time situational awareness, there is no question Dan’s contributions have made flying safer. We are proud to recognize his achievements with the Richard G. McSpadden General Aviation Safety Award.”
“Improving safety and ease of use is at the core of everything we do at Avidyne, and I am honored to be recognized with this prestigious award from the AOPA Air Safety Institute.” Schwinn said.
The prestigious award was presented as part of the annual Robert “Bob” Hoover Awards Ceremony at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, on March 19, 2025.

The number of “near miss events” involving helicopters at Reagan Washington National Airport in the three years leading up to a fatal January collision this year between an Army chopper and an American Airlines flight. A “near miss event” is defined as one in which helicopters and planes at the airport came within one nautical mile and 400 vertical feet of each other. Helicopter flights near Reagan National regularly cause an “intolerable risk to aviation safety,” NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy told reporters.
