Provide your little learners with a variety of low-cost materials. Cardboard boxes, milk cartons, cotton reels, pipe cleaners, drinking straws and modelling clay are all fantastic for construction activities. Use these alongside construction resources specifically designed for early years and encourage them to design and build their own 3D structures.


Using picture books for inspiration and including animals, cars and people will further enrich their experience and help their imaginations to soar. Allow them time to fully explore the materials and encourage them to talk about what they could use the different items to create.
