Activity Idea Outdoor construction
Where indoor space is limited, construction is the perfect activity to take outside. The freedom to work in an open space means that structures can be made on a grander scale and involve larger groups of children. As well as being great for social development as children work with each other, building with larger materials means that core muscle groups are used, improving gross motor skills, balance and coordination.

Crates, tyres, rope, natural materials and larger blocks specifically designed for building outdoors can be used to create an outdoor construction area. Try introducing hard hats, tool boxes and high visibility jackets to allow your little learners to participate in role play as they become real “builders”.
Large scale construction doesn’t just have to be about building. Provide old steering wheels to build buses, planes, trains or cars or a piece of metallic fabric could be a lake that needs a bridge building across it.
