We’re delighted to work with two nurseries who put two of our new products to the test to promote creativity, imagination and problems solving through open-ended play.
Abacus Nursery, Wakefield
What activities did you use the product for? The product was used for maths, colour recognition, counting shapes and great for stacking and emptying for the little children aged 13-15 months.
A few items, such as the wooden rings, were put in the sensory area for the children to explore the different shapes. The children enjoyed stacking and putting them onto the wooden tissue roll holders we had. The younger children who were teething enjoyed exploring their mouths to feel the wooden rings and skittles.
Did the children enjoy using the product? The older children enjoyed choosing what they could find in the bag without looking and showed the staff what they had found. This is so they could talk about their item and this was a great way of encouraging children to use their language/words.
Some children used their imaginary skills and put the wooden rings on their arms and explored the dressing up and pretending they had bangles/ watches on their arms.
Most of the children were fascinated with the little spinners and enjoyed trying to keep them balanced and going in their little bowls.
Would you recommend the product to other nurseries? It is a great product to have in nurseries as it can be used in many, different ways and can cover most of the learning areas if planned well. However, some of the sizes of items are a little small and some smaller children were able to fit them into their mouths so supervision is necessary.
How would you rate the product out of 10? I would rate the product 8/10.
