This edition we focus on PSHE. With the news from the DfE that relationships education and health education will become mandatory in primary schools in 2020, we wanted to provide you with some insight and ideas that will help you get prepared for the changes.
The PSHE Association, the national body for PSHE education, discusses the new statutory guidance and the implications for schools on pages 6–7.
Our regular ‘Diary of’ feature is from Caitlin Wright, PSHCE subject leader at Copley Junior School. PSHCE and pupil mentoring schemes are an integral part of the provision at the school, and Caitlin discusses some of the things they do. You’ll find this on pages 8–9.
We have insight from education, wellbeing and mindfulness specialists Hester Binge (pages 10–11) and Suzanne Shenderey (pages 14–16). Plus, don’t forget to check out the top tips for mindfulness and wellbeing from other teachers just like you, on pages 20–21.
