What did you and the children think of the product?

I used the Little Tin of Big Worries with a Year 3 and a Year 4 confidence group. All the children soon got the idea of how to use the cards and how to work out a solution to the problem. They each chose a card and read the problem. Instantly all hands were up as they wanted to tell the group of their experience with that issue. They knew they would all have a chance to speak with the rest of the group listening, without interruptions and others would offer advice or even just agree that they had experienced the same. It made my life very easy as conversations about delicate subjects were raised and explored without me having to initiate them. I also added my worries which reassured the children that everybody has the same concerns.

Did it help with specific learning

objectives? Yes because after the first session, I doctored the cards so issues I particularly wanted to explore with those particular children were put on top of the pile. This helped me to initiate conversations about subjects that I wanted the children to discuss without me having to specifically raise them. They felt able to talk about worries, discuss them and listen to other children’s opinions. The children felt empowered as they chose the card, they initiated conversations about the topic and I merely acted as mediator. They then had to decide which solution best suited the worry and children were not afraid to disagree with others as to the best solution to the problem which they enjoyed doing.

10/10 Hatton Hill Primary School Would you recommend the product to

others? I would recommend the product to others. It’s small, light, portable and doesn’t take any preparation. It was suitable for ages between 7 and 10 and both groups got lots out of using the cards. The only recommendation I would like to make about the product is I would have liked some blank cards that I could have written my own subjects for discussion on. Although arranging the cards to suit the groups’ needs worked, I would have liked to choose a subject, in fact, after a few sessions it would be useful for children to choose the subject. We might actually do that with some home–made cards.

How many would you rate the Little Tin of Big Worries out of 10?
