Retirement living

When elderlycare achieves five star hotel style luxury

Earlier this year, Susannah Millen was invited to enjoy a tour of the newly refurbished Albert Suites, a boutique care home that sits within the Battersea Place retirement living development in London, and to see for herself the levels of luxury that can be achieved

Situated on Albert Bridge Road, opposite Battersea Park in London, Battersea Place has been designed to bridge the gap between independent and assisted living. Within the development is the Albert Suites, a boutique care home that is ideally placed should a resident’s needs change.

Founded in New Zealand, but with a global reach, LifeCare Residences is defined by both its 35 year pedigree and a commitment to innovation, progress and development in the retirement sector. As one of the pioneers in the sector, founder Cliff Cook harnessed its collective expertise to revolutionise retirement living in the UK.

With Somerleigh Court in Dorset and Grove Place in Hampshire, it opened its first London community - Battersea Place - in the summer of 2016. Most recently, it launched the Albert Suites, which opened in November 2016.

Complementing the infrastructure that has been designed to support a rewarding retirement is a friendly community that is underpinned by facilities that encourage social interaction, mental stimulation and physical activity. The 28 suites are all occupied; the oldest resident is 96 years old. Services available inhouse include physiotherapy and weekly GP visits. An android smart phone nurse call system is available throughout the complex, which incorporates person- centred software and up-to-date care plans. Potential risks are identified
