New 50-bed home to be built in East Renfrewshire

Morrison Community Care Group and CCG (Scotland) will develop a new 50-bed care home in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. Greenbank Care Home in Clarkston will offer 24/7 residential, nursing, and dementia care, as well as amenities including en suite bedrooms, dining areas, a hair salon, and cinema. The care home will also have a specially designed layout to mitigate the spread of viruses and effects of any future pandemics. The project will also include the

redevelopment of Greenbank Parish Church, with its existing community facilities extended and enhanced while preserving the original church building.

Morrison Community Care Group’s manging director Paul Sokhi, said: “It’s been a long process for everyone involved, but the result is ultimately a positive one for the church and the Clarkston community. Not only are we addressing localised demand for modern, residential care accommodation and alleviating pressure on our NHS; we are also helping to stimulate employment with the creation of up to 100 jobs.

“Furthermore, giving the church the means to invest and upgrade their facilities will ensure it will continue to serve its congregation and the wider community for many years to come.”

Edinburgh care home set for redevelopment following sale

Braid Hills Nursing Home in Edinburgh, which ceased trading in July 2024, has been sold to Crown Care Group. Previously owned by Bupa Care Homes and once registered to care for up to 119 residents, the former nursing home occupies a detached two-storey 1990s purpose-built property in the Liberton suburb of Edinburgh. Following a sales process with Martin Daw at Christie & Co, the home has been sold to Crown Care Group, which plans to redevelop the site, turning the home into a state-of-the- art, future-proof facility. Michael Ladhar, owner of Crown Care Group, said: “Being based in Newcastle, we have long considered the Scottish market as a logical direction for our growth. We see that there is an under-provision of best-in-class care homes against a backdrop of growing demand, and this particular home allows us the opportunity to redevelop the site to put our unique stamp on it in its established scenic setting. We develop and operate our care homes for the long term, and we look forward to developing this site to match, if not surpass, our previous developments. We look forward to this being the first of a number of

delighted to be here today to help celebrate this milestone. Over the last decade The Grand has cared for a great many local people, delivering wonderful levels of care in these beautiful surroundings. “It is testament to the exceptional environment created 10 years ago that many local people have been able to stay in the heart of the community that they love while being expertly cared for here at The Grand. It’s been a privilege for us to join you today and I wish you many more years of success in the future.” Home manager Tracy Johnston said: “It’s absolutely wonderful to have the Mayor and Mayoress with us today to celebrate our 10 year milestone. The Grand is more than just a care home, it is a warm, thriving and well established community filled with joy and laughter. We’re like a large family, with our care team working hard to ensure residents feel safe and happy and are able to live their lives to the fullest.”

care developments in Scotland. We are still at the design stage but home to have our scheme finalised in the coming months.” Martin Daw, senior director at Christie & Co, commented: “It was great to see that a closed 90s build care home site will be transformed into a brand-new care facility over the coming years. It’s also encouraging to see such an experienced operator with a reputation for delivering high-quality care provision entering the Scottish market, and we look forward to seeing them grow in the years ahead.”
