Anchor receives Spotlight Award at Breaking Down Barriers Awards
Anchor, the largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people in England, has been awarded a Spotlight Award at the 2025 Breaking Down Barriers Awards. The award recognises Anchor’s
commitment to digital inclusion, community safety, diversity, and resident wellbeing. Held in Parliament, the awards run by the Purpose Coalition celebrated social mobility champions who are actively creating opportunities across the UK. The Spotlight Award shines a light on those who have shown exceptional dedication and impact in their particular fields. The judges praised Anchor’s innovative approaches. This includes the Be Digital program, which provides free devices and digital training to help residents stay
connected, and the Be Well initiative, which provides a holistic framework supporting residents’ mental, physical, and social wellbeing. Anchor’s Community Safety Team was also praised for its work to foster safer, more inclusive neighbourhoods. In addition to the Spotlight Award, Anchor
was also shortlisted for the Open Recruitment Award and Closing the Digital and AI Divides Award. Anchor chief executive Sarah Jones said: “The Spotlight Award is wonderful recognition for dedicated colleagues as well as the residents who generously give their time to build communities where people love to live.” Nick Forbes CBE, Purpose Coalition engagement director, commented: “We are pleased to give Anchor a Spotlight award for their commitment to digital inclusion, community safety, diversity and wellbeing of residents. Through initiatives like Be Digital, Connected Properties and their Community Safety Team, they have enhanced digital access, neighbourhood safety and inclusivity. Anchor’s Be Well programme also promotes holistic wellness and there’s no doubt they are making a lasting impact on the communities they serve.”
Birchwood Grange celebrates opening of new suite
Birchwood Grange Care Home in Harrow, Greater London has held an event to celebrate the official opening of its new Aster Suite. Part of the Avery Healthcare group,
Birchwood Grange offers a comprehensive range of care services, including residential, nursing, dementia, and respite care. The Mayor of Brent, Councillor Tariq Dar MBE, attended the event to mark the opening of the new suite, delivering a speech to staff, residents, and their loved ones. Harpist Emilija Karaliute, performed, and guests enjoyed a selection of sweet treats crafted by Birchwood Grange’s culinary team.

delighted to be here to announce the official opening of the Aster Suite. The setting here is very friendly, and Birchwood Grange Care Home is a vital part of our local community. I am an advocate of the work that is being carried out here.”

New luxury care home opens in Swindon
Willowbrook View, a new luxury care home in the Connaught Care Collection, officially opened its doors with a champagne and cocktails evening. Over 100 guests were treated to drinks, canapés, live entertainment, and guided tours of the home – which boasts en-suite bedrooms, a cinema, fine-dining bistro, and luxury spa – located in Swindon’s new Wichelstowe housing development. Guests could also take part in
interactive cookery demonstrations with the home’s team of chefs, flower arranging in the activities room, and fitness sessions with Willowbrook’s dedicated team of on- site personal trainers. General manager Liv Butler said: “It
was wonderful to share our hard work with the community and show them the exceptional care environment we have created. We look forward to becoming a hub of activity and support for older people in the area.”

We were thrilled to see so many people come along to meet the team and explore our beautiful home.
