it may get, the end goal will be worth it. A reassured workforce is a positive workforce.
Invest in your workforce One of the most important things you can do for your workforce is to invest in them with both time and money. This could be things such as helping to improve the work culture, bringing in a new management system, utilising a consultant for their expert advice, or adopting the help of an agency to aid the recruitment process and find the best employees for your home – all of which can be a costly and a time-consuming process. We can be guilty of looking for ways to cut costs, but sometimes it is about bracing for the initial costs to reap the benefits later on. Spending resources on recruitment is one example of a lengthy and pricey process, but it is an integral one that can be extremely beneficial to the home and ultimately lead to lowered costs in the future. Taking time to employ the right staff, those who are hardworking and dedicated, and buying into the ethos of the home, leads to less staff turnover, meaning the same costly and timely process will not have to be repeated on a regular basis, reducing agency and interview costs.
Plus, work relationships are very important to employee wellbeing, as they can help to reduce personal stress levels, increase productivity, and promote general feelings of happiness. Enjoying your work environment, and the people you work with, leads to a happier, more productive and motivated workforce, proving that the initial investment into this area is beneficial and worthwhile. The initial impact of a negative report is by far the hardest bit. Take some comfort in knowing that it can only get better from there, as well as knowing you are not the only care home to have gone through that situation. As much as we all work hard and try our best to impress the CQC, the natural ebbs and flows of business life mean there will always be peaks and troughs, sometimes resulting in an unfavourable outcome. Although the process may be intimidating, especially for smaller care providers who feel they lack support and direction, just remember that by taking your time, planning carefully, and ensuring you are following the best practice, you have every chance of success. Ensuring that your staff are at the forefront of your decision- making will create a united workforce that will always come out on top.
