BN Care to expand thanks to BGF investment
Provider BN Care has embarked upon a five- year expansion after a significant investment from capital investor BGF. BN Care has already used the £3.4m
investment to acquire a care home in Dorset. Currently, the provider operates three homes in the south of England – St Vincent’s in Bexhill, East Sussex, and two homes in Exeter: Hay House and The Dales.
The Dorset acquisition will increase BN Care’s total capacity of specialist nursing beds to 120. However, not wishing to rest on its laurels, the provider has stated its intention to build a portfolio of ten homes by 2028. BN Care CEO Wade Newmark said: “We
see a huge amount of potential in the range of strategic and financial support that BGF is able to provide and felt it was important to work with an investor that has a long-term approach to driving growth. The financial backing from BGF means we can accelerate our growth plans, supporting even more people in the region that need our services.” Edwin Davies, BGF investor, added: “We are
delighted to announce our investment in BN Care as it grows to meet the range of complex needs that are so in demand from older people across our communities. We are backing an accomplished and highly experienced industry leader in CEO Wade Newmark, who has a track record of providing high-quality
services to the care home sector. “Our investment will enable BN Care to build a network of specialist nursing homes in the South West region. We look forward to supporting the business with further funding and strategic support in the future as it expands its portfolio of homes.”
Barchester’s Charitable Foundation offers grants to help combat loneliness
Care provider Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is inviting charities and community groups to apply for three special grants.
Named in the memory of a former Barchester resident who donated part of her legacy to help good causes and individuals in need, the Jeanette Gill Special Awards will be awarded to projects that enrich lives and encourage an active lifestyle through arts,
music, sports, and culture for older people or adults with a disability, or those that may have challenges with mental health. This year will mark the last round of
grants from Jeanette Gill’s legacy. There are three awards available: Gold (£15,000), Silver (£10,000), and Bronze (£5,000). The closing date for applications is 26 March 2023. Dr Pete Calveley, CEO of Barchester Healthcare and Chairman of the Foundation, said: “We were extremely touched that one of our residents donated so generously to Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. We thought it would be fitting to create these flagship grants in her honour and memory as a tribute to the lives she is helping. The charity does so much for local communities throughout the country to tackle and reduce loneliness for many people, and these grants will make a big difference to those in need.”

Anchor celebrates Yorkshire opening with time capsule
Not-for-profit provider Anchor has buried a time capsule at the site of its new care home, Skelton Court, in North Yorkshire. Anchor staff were joined by the head
boy and girl of Skelton Primary School, Nathan Dewing and Erika Jordan, and Redcar and Cleveland Mayor Stuart Smith, to bury a time capsule ahead of Skelton Court’s opening this month. The new home is located in the market town of Skelton-in-Cleveland. The school filled the capsule with descriptions of the future - many of which featured flying cars - and pupils’ job hopes and ambitions, among which were aspirations to cure dementia and coronavirus. Descriptions of what the last few years have been like and what pupils enjoy doing were also part of the contents. Those who discover the time capsule in
years to come will also find photographs and documents relating to Skelton Court, which will offer residential and dementia care for up to 65 residents. Details about Anchor and information about home manager Beverley Grimes were also included.
Lonia Krywiczanin, deputy
headteacher at Skelton Primary School, said: “Working on the time capsule has been a great project for the children and their reflections have been thought- provoking, inspiring and entertaining. “It’s been a wonderful opportunity for them to engage with different generations and understand the importance of older people in the community. I am particularly heartened to think of our pupils making a difference in this world by discovering cures for diseases such as dementia.” Mayor Stuart Smith added: “The contents put forward by the pupils at Skelton Primary School offer a fascinating snapshot of life in the early 21st century. I would love to know whether predictions about our future world such as flying cars will seem crazy or completely normal when this time capsule is found! “I look forward to the opening of Skelton Court and the provision of care and support it will offer to older people in Redcar and Cleveland.”
