Braintree care home hits key construction milestone

A topping out ceremony has been held for Avery Healthcare’s new £8m care home in Braintree, Essex. The traditional industry event, held in February to mark the competition of the home’s roof - a significant project milestone - was attended by the client team and firms involved in the construction. Attendees included Adrian Doyle, director of developments at Avery Healthcare, and members of the project delivery team, including the construction manager at main contractor Horizon Construction, Adam French, project manager at Holden & Lee, Craig Lavery, and director at Harniss Consulting, Darren Harris. Avery Healthcare, one of the largest care

home providers in the UK, is on track to open Braintree Mews Care Home in the summer. The prestigious development on Church Lane, Braintree, Essex, located next to the former site of Braintree College, will create what Avery Healthcare calls ‘a modern and carefully considered’ 75-bed facility. Braintree Mews will include a cinema, activity room, dual occupancy rooms, and landscaped grounds. Managing director at Horizon Construction, Phil Holding, said: “We are delighted to reach another important milestone in this project. As a leader in its sector, we are proud to be entrusted with Avery Healthcare’s latest care home and are looking forward to completing another high- quality healthcare solution.”

Rayner Davies completes work on 80-bed Derby home

Architect firm Rayner Davies has completed work on the new Kingsway View care home in Derby. Rayner Davies worked with The Care Build Group to modify an existing design for the site, tailoring the proposals to the specific needs of their client, Acacia Care. The changes were formalised with the local authority.

Acting as lead consultants on the

project, Rayner Davies provided contractor Wynbrook with a technical design package that enabled the scheme to be delivered on-site in an efficient and timely manner. The new home sits as part of a wider retirement living masterplan on the former Kingsway Hospital site on the western side of Derby. As well as 80 bedrooms, the facility boasts a large café/ bistro, library, spa, cinema, pub, external balcony terraces, and resident lounges and dining facilities. The style of the building reflects existing developments to the north and the wider site to form a series of buildings that share similar materials and styles, all of which are set within the mature garden setting of the former hospital.

Julien McGuinness, project architect Boutique Care Homes acquires site in Hythe, Kent

Boutique Care Homes has acquired a new care home site in Hythe, Kent – its second acquisition in recent months. The 66-bedroom home, to be built in partnership with Roddy New Homes Ltd, will be located in the south west of the town at the former Smiths Medical centre on Boundary Road. As part of a wider regeneration project for this brownfield site, the new care home will sit alongside a development of 97 houses. The site has been vacant since Smiths Medical relocated its staff to Ashford at the end of 2017. Following a reserved matters planning application, construction will commence in late 2023, with Boutique Care Homes committing over £10m in investment into the local area. The home will generate over 70 new

jobs. Boutique promises ‘ … a new standard of luxury and family-centred care’ for the Hythe area.

Boutique Care Homes is rapidly expanding its portfolio, with homes in Shepperton Surrey, Newmarket Suffolk, and Broadstairs Kent, and having recently acquired a fourth site in Burgess Hill, West Sussex. Ameet Kotecha, MD and head of the Boutique Care Homes family, said: “I am pleased that after much hard work by the team, we have acquired this site to strengthen the group’s presence in Kent. Hythe is a great opportunity for us to continue developing top quality homes, providing the highest quality care to residents. We are very excited to begin work on our latest new development.”

at Rayner Davies said: “The challenge here was formalising the necessary changes in layout for Acacia’s needs without triggering the need to resubmit the scheme for full planning permission. Instead, other planning mechanisms were utilised to allow works to progress on site at pace. It was a pleasure working again with The Care Build Group, Acacia Care, and Wynbrook to deliver this project and we are all delighted with the results.”
