Tympa Health gives care resident ears some TLC
London-based provider TLC Care is rolling out Tympa Health’s portable, all-in-one hearing health assessment device to all eight of its care homes after a successful trial. The Tympa system enables residents to undergo digital otoscopy, microsuction wax removal and a hearing screener all in the comfort of the care home. TLC team members deliver the service so the resident already knows and trusts that person, and is happy to undergo an assessment. Furthermore, residents can receive this care from anywhere within the home, whether that be from an armchair, a wheelchair, or in bed. It is even possible to send images and video
of a resident’s ear directly to a GP, who is then able to prescribe directly, without the need to assess the resident in person or wait for an appointment. “There has always been a problem getting any sort of services because they are not classed as emergency services, getting somebody’s hearing loss checked, it can take weeks, or even months,” said TLC Care home manager Pradeep D’Cruz. TLC Care provides care to hundreds of residents across North London, Hertfordshire, Cambridge and Surrey.
Ardale taps Gainsborough for more care home baths
Ardale has recommissioned Gainsborough to provide three specialist Gentona baths to ensure its care excellence ethos is present in the bathrooms of its Oakham Grange care home in Rutland and beyond. Gentona baths provide powered height adjustment and bather transfer seats so bathers and carers benefit from safe moving and handling. Bathers once again have freedom to bathe and enjoy the sensation of soaking in a bath. Eye level engagement is possible and administering personal care does not involve uncomfortable stooping. With the inclusion of
50
multiple safety and therapeutic features built-in, Gainsborough baths are now providing a vital hygiene and sensory experience. “Times have been really tough
over the last year with Covid so being able to soak in a bath has
become a real treat for residents, not just a procedure for personal hygiene,” said Oakham Grange general manager Catherine Ferguson. “They can enjoy the airspa bubbles, chromotherapeutic lighting and even music through the inbuilt Bluetooth sound system – really stimulating for people with dementia. They’re one of our highlights when we show potential new clients around,” she added.
Orchard home to give the home a fresh new look and system using the latest technology, with full datalogging to meet CQC requirements.
The installation took about
a week, broken down into four sections to minimise
disruption in replacing the old system, using existing wiring infrastructure where possible. With the installation of nurse call panels, door access points, nurse call aids and call points, the technology now provides a modern nurse call system offering easy communication and management.
Vayyar asks Alexa to provide fall detection solutions
Vayyar Imaging, the Israeli supplier of 4D imaging radar-based solutions, has teamed up with Amazon to make Vayyar Care, Vayyar’s touchless fall detection solution, compatible with the new Alexa Together service from Amazon. Wall-mounted sensors use point cloud
imaging technology to constantly monitor their surroundings, providing peace of mind while respecting privacy. When the Vayyar Care device detects a fall, it will send a signal to Alexa to ask if the customer wants to call the Alexa Together Urgent Response emergency helpline. Alexa will also send a notification to the aging loved one’s caregiver. Vayyar Care detects falls in all lighting conditions, including pitch darkness, and even dense steam, making it ideal for use in bathrooms where 80 per cent of falls happen and where customers may not want to have cameras.
Kudos Linen Hire warms to Rinnai hot water systems
Kudos Linen Hire has upgraded its Newcastle facility with Rinnai continuous flow hot water systems to ensure the highest
quality of laundry service and reliability. The company was experiencing problems with its hot water delivery system and Rinnai advised on a continuous flow solution with back-up cylinders. Three units of the Rinnai N Series - all 1600i
models - were installed quickly and expertly by contractor HLA Services. Rinnai advised that Kudos’ increased
workload would be met with three N Series 1600i units plus two 500-litre cylinders, which produce almost 3,500 litres per hour of hot water at 60˚C.
The N Series is the first ever continuous flow
hot water heating unit manufactured with stainless steel heat exchangers to be available in the UK - this gives a greatly extended working life.
