Anavo partners with Kingston Council for Surbiton care home

Kingston Council has teamed up with care home operator Anavo Group to run a new state-of-the-art dementia care nursing home in Surbiton.

Surbitonian Gardens is designed to support residents living with dementia to remain as independent as possible and will be the first of its kind in the borough when it opens next year. The 80-bed care home will include a variety of different communal areas, such as an on- site hairdresser, tech hub and games room and a multi-functional community space. There will also be a range of dining areas, a cafe/bistro, a gift shop and gardens. “Providing the best possible care to those residents that need it most is obviously an absolute priority for the Council and I’m delighted that Anavo Group will be working with us to make this possible through the Surbitonian Gardens dementia care home,” said Sam Foulder-Hughes and Margaret Thompson, Kington Council’s joint portfolio holders for adult social care and public health. “This new home will mean we can provide residents living with dementia with the care they need and deserve,” they added. The news comes as the council reveals that the number of Kingston residents living with dementia is expected to soar from around 1,500 currently to more than 2,100 in 2027. “The number of Kingston residents

living with dementia is rising significantly and it’s vital that we think differently about how we support them in years to come. This exciting new home will mean our dementia care services are more effective and more efficient,” they added. Anavo director Ed Moore said: “We are

very much looking forward to opening the new home in the spring. Kingston Council has chosen us because of our innovative approach to care. We want residents to have a license to be themselves and agency to live as they choose.

“This is why for us it’s important to ensure that our residents not only maintain social relationships and continue to enjoy their lifelong interests but that they engage with the modern world through cutting edge technology which will help them to stay connected and take advantage of the opportunities that it offers to benefit their physical and mental health.”

Services includes appraising and marketing care homes, nursing homes and specialist units on behalf of owners, investors, lenders and buyers. The company will look to expand into healthcare valuations in the future, a spokeswoman said.

Fleurets Healthcare divisional director and head of healthcare Willoughby was responsible for the north of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland at DC Care, where she oversaw transactions ranging in value from £300,000 for a closed care home to £54m for a specialist group. “It was following a conversation with

someone I trusted that I even considered the move, but it didn’t happen instantly. It was very well thought out, as my next role had to be somewhere that I could see myself for the foreseeable future,” she said.

In addition, an extensive range of engaging activities will always be a consistent feature of life at Studley Rose — designed to sustain the physical and mental wellbeing of each resident. “Studley Rose is a place where we can

provide safe and kind care, placing people at the centre of what we do,” said Macc Care director of operations Sharen Guise. “We believe we have created an environment that aims to provide local people with the benchmark for how care should be delivered. Above all, we want to create a warm, compassionate, safe and friendly environment for everyone living with us,” she added.

Studley Rose is the tenth home of the Macc Care group, which run a collection of

care homes in and around Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The word ‘rose’ is used across the collection of homes to symbolise new beginnings.
