Grange. As with Vida Grange, Vida Court was a design-led approach, which was at the forefront of the brief from James and the team at Vida. With an aspiration to create a care home of the future, the building needed to be state of the art and provide a leading example in the field of dementia care. Communal open plan spaces were crucial and at the core of the scheme. Resident bedrooms were designed to be located around an open plan communal space, which linked spaces through visual connection rather than corridors.
In terms of the design process, it is very similar to any other project. However, it is always important to bear in mind that vulnerable people will eventually be living in the home and they need to be at the forefront of every design decision. The process for Vida Court was exciting yet challenging. We developed a design that not only satisfied the client’s brief and aspirations, but importantly was also financially viable.

look like. We designed a care home with a positive environment for residents to live and staff to care in. The inclusive environment is homely and is not institutional in feel or appearance, which sets it apart from other care homes. The incorporation of self-contained ‘houses’ - homes within the home - also enable residents with different levels of
dementia to be specifically cared for in an environment that best suits their unique needs. There are not many care homes that can offer this.
