News Anchor heralds financial inclusion service
Residents have gained more than £6m as a result of a financial inclusion service provided by not-for-profit provider Anchor. Through Be Wise, Anchor’s free and impartial financial inclusion service, residents across the UK have been supported to maximise their income by receiving advice on matters such as benefits, energy bills, budgeting, income and expenditure, basic debt management advice, and easing cost-of- living pressures. Over 3,500 residents have been supported by financial inclusion advisors from Be Wise to maximise their income for an estimated combined total of more than £6m over the financial year, with each resident gaining on average £8,000 each.
A resident support fund made available
through Anchor’s Be Wise service has also helped residents access a wide range of essential household items enabling them to buy food, pay energy bills and purchase home essentials such as carpets and white goods. Sam Scotcher, financial inclusion manager
for Anchor, said: “Anchor’s Be Wise service is free to all residents and its purpose is to assist those who are experiencing periods of hardship and to provide support where needed and to maximise their income. “We are a very diverse team, with colleagues from different ethnicities, faiths, age groups, gender and sexuality and those who speak different languages which enables us to reach a wide range of people and tailor our services to meet individual people’s needs.”
Hallmark secures East London planning permission
Hallmark Luxury Care Homes has been granted planning permission to build a care home in Woodford Green, East London.
Hallmark will transform the two-acre site on Manor Road that was previously used by Guide Dogs for the Blind into a 110- bed, residential, dementia, and nursing care home.
The Woodford Green development – Hallmark’s 25th care home – will feature Hallmark’s signature retirement living offering – The Residences – where residents will enjoy premium suites with access to a kitchenette, exclusive amenities, fine dining, and concierge services. Hallmark Luxury Care Homes managing Aneurin Brown said: “The care home in Woodford Green represents an exciting period of growth for us after recently opening two homes in Somerset and West Sussex, and we are very pleased to help meet the growing demand for specialist care in the area. “The development will provide local residents with a place where they feel safe and supported to live an active and fulfilled life and we are looking forward to creating a luxurious and homely, new care community.”
Ground-breaking ceremony for Kirklees Extra Care scheme
A ground-breaking ceremony has been held to mark the start of works at Housing 21’s Extra Care development in Kirklees. The ceremony at the site in Cleckheaton
was attended by representatives from Housing 21, Kirklees Council, Homes England, and Robertson Group. The £20m Extra Care scheme is being delivered by Housing 21, a national leading provider of Retirement Living and Extra Care, in partnership with Kirklees Council. Homes England are providing a grant of over £7m, and Robertson Group are the main contractors, working with Brewster Bye Architects. The development will comprise 61 one- and
19 two-bedroom apartments, all of which will be available for social rent.
