The Extraordinary Days programme also includes outings and events at London museums, theatres and historic venues, from the Hurlingham Club to the Sloane Club, Cadogan Hall, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Saatchi Gallery, as well as the Royal College of Music and the Royal Opera House. Grand days out for sports fans range from outings to Royal Ascot to rugby matches at Twickenham.

The personal touch Back at Loveday Kensington, members can make use of the spa and beauty salon, where staff can perform treatments as part of the regular service. In addition, there is a fitness/ rehabilitation room located near the salon on the lower ground floor of the building, which used to be an office block prior to being gutted, redesigned and rebuilt. For their personal accommodation, members can choose between Loveday suite interiors or work with the company’s London design team to decorate and furnish their own suites to suit their individual styles and preferences. Individuality is key, says Zackova. “If you don’t want your name and room number on the door, or don’t want a memory box with your personal belongings on the door, then you shouldn’t have. We’ve learned to assess people and treat them as individuals rather than have institutional signs around the building. Some people prefer to have a piece of art or something familiar to them on their door. “One lady, for example, had a photo of a lovely view of Hong Kong from where she used to sit by the window in her apartment. We put that on the door and she recognised that.”

The suites incorporate learnings from Chelsea Court Place, including the use of acoustic monitoring systems having trialled other assistive technologies. “We thought that was the most suitable and discreet for people living with dementia so, for example, they don’t feel offended by a clinical panel

Courtyard entrance on the wall,” says Zackova.

Other safety measures include a portable Abbott ID NOW rapid PCR testing machine for Covid-19. Costing around £4,500, with tests - at £20 a pop - providing results within ten minutes, the machine has proven invaluable with no Omicron cases among Loveday residents through daily staff testing. “We had individual staff cases, and

we detected staff cases even before they developed symptoms. It has allowed for safe visits…we will have one in each of the homes.” Should the worst happen, Loveday Kensington has included ‘end of life accommodation’ for families. Situated next to a member’s suite, the room includes a bed and access to showers and meals. “So, if anything changes with their family member, I can knock on the door and say, you know, I think it’s time that you come in. But you also have the space when you need it.”

Future plans In January, Loveday launched a homecare service that offers a few hours of support a week, through to live-in or round-the-clock care. Modelled on Chelsea Court Place, Loveday at Home offers an extensive menu of advice, assessments, therapies, activities, lifestyle concierge and property services to improve and enhance the lives of more people in the community. “Loveday at Home was born from demand from the community and to accommodate our Members who were not able to access our Day Club due to Covid restrictions,” says Zackova. “It enables

people to continue living in the familiar environment of their home while receiving outstanding care and enjoying all the exciting activities Loveday has to offer.” Beyond this, the company is set to open

two further ‘des res’ London care homes this year as a part of a deal with investment partner Frogmore, which includes Loveday Kensington. The first is the 33-bed Loveday Notting Hill, which at the time of going to press was scheduled to open by the end of April.

The second is the 26-bed Loveday Abbey Road, located on the site of a derelict care home, which is due to open by the end of June.
