We can support you to reduce your potential infection control risks
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 1 , infection
control and prevention (IPC) is a scientific approach and practical solution designed to prevent harm caused by infection to patients, residents and healthcare providers. This approach is grounded in infectious diseases, epidemiology, social science and health systems.
A person who experiences Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) have longer hospital stays; utilise more healthcare resources; are at greater risk of readmission and death; and contribute to increased healthcare costs 2,3,4
.
. For an individual,
HAI results in an extra 14 days in hospital, a 10% chance of dying, an extra £3,154 spent on healthcare and six extra days off work 5
In addition, residents in long-term care facilities are at risk of acquiring HAIs due to their dependence on care, sharing of facilities with other residents and living in a confined environment 6
. Infections in the nursing home population have
been associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality, hospital readmission, extended hospital stay and substantial healthcare expenses 7
long term care facilities are urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory tract infections, skin or tissue infections and gastro-intestinal infections 10
.
Implementing medical devices and solutions that reduce cross infection can support operational efficiencies, caregiver safety and improve quality of care.
Our portfolio and services are designed to include easy to clean and disinfect equipment, disposable and patient specific options, and solutions for safe disposal of human waste.
Arjo decontamination solutions have been designed to complement the facilities infection control strategy and offer maximum protection to the residents and caregivers.
. HAIs are defined as infections occurring
after exposure to healthcare and often, but not necessarily, as a consequence of this exposure 8,9
. The most reported HAIs in Figure 2. Arjo Flites
Decontamination options include thermal, chemical and OTEX ozone laundry disinfection (Figure 1), which is endorsed by the Department of Health 11
to minimise the risk of infection.
Where decontamination solutions are not an option, the WHO guidelines recommend minimising cross-contamination by using disposable or patient specific equipment 12
such as slide sheets
and slings. Arjo Flites™ are designed for single patient use and would be disposed of if soiled, damaged or suspected of being contaminated.
Along with disposable or patient specific equipment, Arjo have introduced a Wipeable Standing Sling and the non-porous components of the Maxi Sky® 2 infection control ceiling hoist (Figure 3) to help reduce cross infection.
With no laundering requirement our wipeable sling is designed to be wiped clean between residents; thus helping to reduce cross infection risks associated with shared handling devices 13,14
. Design benefits include non-porous material,
welded seams to reduce potential fluid ingress and contamination, and a smooth contact surface.
The Maxi Sky 2 infection control ceiling hoist system provides non-porous components, easy to clean and disinfect, and compatible with a wide range of healthcare disinfection agents 15
