IPS Conference 2019: What to expect
This year, the Infection Prevention Society Annual Conference celebrates 60 years of infection control nursing. The Clinical Services Journal explores what’s taking place at the ACC, Liverpool from 22 – 24 September 2019.
At the IPS Conference leading experts in their field will present on the latest, current, and emerging threats and state-of-the-art research, in a bid to help improve teams, practices and patients’/clients’ outcomes. There will be a comprehensive series of presentations, meet-the-expert sessions and specialist streams. As well as main conference sessions, one day of conferences will be dedicated to the following: l DIPC Day 2019 - a day for the development of infection prevention & control leaders
l Infection Prevention in Paediatrics – ‘Hand in Hand’, working together for children
l Delegates attending the main conference are also permitted entry to these specialist days).
DIPC Day 2019 is designed to support leaders in infection prevention & control by providing expert workshops and presentations on behaviour, challenges and quality improvement. At a time when the difficulties facing IPC leaders are legion, new and re-emerging threats continue to develop, IPC leaders themselves require opportunities for advancement. This day is designed for IPC aspiring and experienced leaders to help them approach the challenges ahead - not as another crisis to manage, but as opportunities in a sea of difficulties. Infection Prevention in Paediatrics will address paediatric care across areas such as infection prevention & control, tissue viability and wound care, IV and infectious siseases. The programme has been tailored towards all paediatric healthcare workers including: IV specialist nurses, ICNs, tissue viability nurses, IPC link nurses and infectious disease specialists. This year’s IPS Conference will see the return of the greatly received Infection Prevention Show. This event takes place on 23 September 2019 and will provide a platform for showcasing the latest innovations, technologies and products. Once again, the audience will be able to interact with experts and personalities, while learning of the possibilities offered by these latest developments.
SEPTEMBER 2019
Taking place between 10:00am and 4:30pm, the Infection Prevention Show returns after having received overwhelming endorsement from last year’s delegates. Hosted by Dr Phil Hammond - NHS doctor, BBC broadcaster, Private Eye journalist and comedian, the event will allow the audience to engage through the live App voting system with firms and products; discuss the challenges being faced by front line IPC staff; and provide a platform to showcase the latest innovative infection prevention technologies and products. The ‘Pitch in Five’ event returns, and a new slot is being introduced, which will allow firms to showcase their products and technology on camera with Phil Hammond on a live feed to the auditorium. The Scientific Programme Committee (SPC) has prepared this conference in furtherance of the IPS Mission Statement: “No patient is harmed by a preventable infection.” Secondly, the programme has direct relevance to practices, providing learning opportunities designed to motivate, inspire and to consider how local infection prevention & control programmes could be modified to improve care and reduce infection risks. All presentations are mapped against the IPS competences to facilitate personalised-development and career progression.
The IPS Annual Conference showcases the largest infection prevention exhibition in the UK. The IPS exhibition hall is dedicated to infection prevention, showcasing innovative products and services from about 100 companies. Attendees enjoy exclusive exhibition hours each day to learn about new science, technologies, advances, and products that provide solutions to infection prevention challenges and strengthen infection prevention programmes. On Sunday 22 September IPS is hosting a fun night for conference delegates and exhibitors to socialise in an informal setting. This will take place at the Revolución de Cuba from 8:30pm until midnight. This site is convenient for attendees as it is located at Liverpool’s Albert Dock. The evening will begin with a welcome drink and include music, and, for those who enjoy singing, there will be the opportunity to indulge in some karaoke. This event is free to attend, but tickets must be ordered in advance, (one ticket per delegate). Craig Bradley, scientific programme commitee coordinator, Said: “The IPS Conference goal is to produce an annual conference that educates, promotes and inspires excellence in infection prevention and control in furtherance of the IPS mission statement.”
