Research interests include many aspects of separation science, being awarded the Chromatographic Society’s Jubilee Medal for Development of Separation Science in Biomedicine & Clinical Chemistry. For the Royal Society of Chemistry, he is Hon. Secretary of the Analytical Division and a Trustee of the Analytical Chemistry Research Fund.
He researched the decontamination of surgical instruments in relation to vCJD for the Department of Health for many years. His university holds patents on devices for residual protein detection, and he provided considerable data to DH to inform the writing of the new HTM0101. He has given invited plenary lectures at ISCHMM in the USA and WFHSS in France and Australia.

Roger Lewis, retired owner of Lewis Medical A summary of the “what, why and how” of urodynamics, and an insight into of some of the issues. Roger Lewis is
originally from South Wales. After working in the NHS for 10 years in the operating theatres of a busy North London hospital, he went into the medical industry specialising in urology. In 1984 he started his own company mainly supplying urological equipment for the newly emerging field of endourology (keyhole surgery). He soon expanded to include urodynamic equipment which later became the main focus of the company. In 2014, Roger and his wife Ann decided to move back to Wales and he now lives in Carmarthen. He is no longer commercially involved in the medical industry. However, he continues to have a keen interest in urology, and does occasional consultancy.

Kate Woodhead, KMW (Healthcare Consultants) This session will review some of the current challenges and barriers to digital development in clinical areas of hospitals.
The Topol review will be examined for solutions and some suggestions made for a way forward.
Kate has over 40 years experience of working in healthcare, firstly in clinical perioperative roles, followed by management of operating departments in the National

Health Service. Kate provides advice to NHS and independent hospitals on change management, audit and redesign of clinical and managerial aspects of perioperative and surgical services. Her consultancy business was set up in 1998 and thrives with national and international clients.
She has worked at a national level, both in consultancy and voluntarily contributing to HBN Building Notes for Operating Theatres, and Sterile Services; Snapshot Review of Decontamination Services. She has been a member of NHS Estates Infection Control Reference Group; member of AAGBI working party on Pre- Assessment for Surgery and a member of the Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease Incident Panel between 2000-2012. Nationally, she led the National Association of Theatre Nurses, now the Association for Perioperative Nurses 1998- 2001, and internationally was the President of the International Federation of Perioperative Nursing 2002-2006.
She was a temporary advisor to WHO for
the World Alliance of Patient Safety’s “Safe Surgery Saves Lives” campaign.
She continues to demonstrate leadership, on a voluntary basis since 2001, of a UK based healthcare charity – Friends of African Nursing, which delivers education to nurses in eleven African countries. Kate writes and speaks and teaches, nationally and internationally, on a frequent basis.
