The 26th IFHE World Congress will be held in Rome from 23-28 May 2020, at the city’s Auditorium della Tecnica, hosted by the Italian Society for Healthcare Architecture and Engineering (Società Italiana dell’Archittetura e dell’Ingegneria per la Sanità – SIAIS). Topically themed ‘Global climate action and energy requirements, a modern approach, the work organisation, the vision, and the future role of healthcare engineering’, the Congress will mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of IFHE, in Rome in May 1970. Topics covered in the conference will include: The sustainability and resilience of hospitals.
Hospital design. Climate change and the hospital environment.
Advanced technologies.
Information and communications technology, and telemedicine.
Health organisation management. Facilities management and maintenance. Infection control. Risk management.
A Welcome Reception, and meetings of both the IFHE Council and Executive Committee, will be held on 24 May, prior to the event’s official opening ceremony on 25 May. The conference will run from 25-26 May, with the Congress Dinner
being held on the evening of 26 May. SIAIS will be organising a number of technical visits to healthcare facilities in Rome, Florence, and Naples on 27 May, and cultural excursions on 28 May. More details will be announced soon. The SIAIS said: “Our Congress will constitute a unique occasion to present and compare our experience as ‘insiders’ within each country’s healthcare system, with a common framework for discussion on the most current and important issue of the moment, ‘Global climate action and energy requirements’. The event will provide a great opportunity to reflect on the contribution that the healthcare engineering community, with its considerable technical ‘know-how’, can make to addressing this global issue.” For more information on the ‘IFHE 2020 Roma’ Congress, visit
