Static Systems Group appoints new MD for ‘next growth phase’
Static Systems Group, the Midlands-headquartered manufacturer of of nurse call, fire alarm and prison alarm, staff attack alarm, and medical trunking systems, has
announced the appointment of Rosie Cunningham Thomas as its new managing director. With over 20 years’ strategic and operational leadership in global corporates, SMEs, and start-ups, over the past 12 years she has specialised in ‘leading and scaling early stage, innovation-driven health technology companies, through critical growth stages to full commercialisation and clinically evidenced market acceptance’. Rosie Cunningham Thomas has prior medical CEO experience at Episurf Medical AB, ToHealth, and FreeHand 2010, and, prior to her business leadership roles, held several senior commercial positions at Bard BD and Smiths
Industries’ medical division. Most recently, she was the CEO at NuVision Biotherapies, a regenerative medicine company which develops ‘life-saving biomaterials’.
She said: “I am delighted to be joining Static Systems Group (SSG) as it starts its next growth phase as part of Halma plc. The Turner family legacy is
impressive, and together as SSG, we can honour this legacy while building for the future, creating sustainable and lasting value.”
The new SSG MD is a dual UK/US national, having emigrated to the UK to marry her English husband. A pharmacist, she earned a pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and studied business management at the University of Pennsylvania. She will be based out of the SSG facility in Wolverhampton.
Antimicrobial fittings aid infection control at the Conquest Hospital in East Sussex
Opened earlier this year, the newly expanded Same Day Emergency Care Unit at Conquest Hospital in St Leonards-on-Sea near Hastings is providing vital same-day emergency care for patients not requiring an overnight hospital stay.
Products from Scolmore’s Mode range of white moulded antimicrobial wiring accessories, and the accompanying GridPro plates and modules range, were chosen for the facility. Scolmore says switch plates – such as light switches, dimmers, and sockets, have one of the highest touch rates in any environment, so are likely to hold a significant number of microbes on their surfaces. It said: “Regular cleaning is essential, but not always sufficient. By using products that inhibit bacterial and fungal organisms, it’s possible to help prevent the spread of superbugs.”
Scolmore’s white moulded and Mode Part M wiring accessories are manufactured using Urea Formaldehyde, which has similar inherent properties to antimicrobial additives. All products independently tested achieved a 99.99 % kill rate across all four types of the strains of bacteria – MRSA, E. coli, Salmonella, and Klebsiella pneumonia.

‘Pioneering’cleaning strategy based on ‘scientific approach’
ISS Healthcare has commissioned a project that it says will ‘take a scientific and behavioural approach to healthcare cleaning, and drive the nation’s healthcare journey in our places that heal’.
The ‘workplace experience’ and facilities management company has worked closely with NHS England and NHS Improvement in the development of the recently published National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021. In support of them, the new ISS healthcare strategy is ‘based on using science to validate the cleaning process, which will in turn build confidence throughout the NHS, support shorter patient stays, and ultimately provide a safe clinical environment to help save lives, not just during the COVID pandemic, but beyond’. Collette Sweeney, ISS head of Healthcare Cleaning, explained: “The application of cleaning science and the impact of behaviour are intrinsically linked to environmental infection control. The project’s purpose is to use science to determine the efficacy and appropriateness of the healthcare cleaning process to deliver evidence- based safe systems of cleaning.” ISS added that ‘the successful delivery of this project centres on a collaborative approach with the NHS, and in particular the hospital our research and development team are working with’.
Electrical Project manager at electrical contracting firm, Booker & Best, who said: “The Mode range offers great quality, represents very good value, and comes with a 20-year guarantee. It scored highly from an infection control standpoint, while its smooth profile reduces the risk of harbouring germs. “The on-site electricians were very impressed with the GridPro range used for the lighting controls, finding the plates’ yokeless design particularly great to work with. Unique to GridPro is the screw attachment feature, which means no yoke is required for any modules when using 1-4 gang plates; the modules can be simply screwed directly onto the plates. Some products require yokes to be purchased as separate components, which has cost and labour implications.”
