IHEEM launches nine-day online Healthcare Planning Course

This month IHEEM will launch a CPD- certified nine-day online Health Facility Planning course in conjunction with one of its ‘knowledge partners’, TAHPI, targeted at ‘professionals already experienced in related industries, but lacking the specialised knowledge required for healthcare planning design’. The Health Facility Planning Course (26 September–4 October) will provide ‘an overview instruction to use evidence- based research to improve a healthcare environment, and master how to handle change leadership, stakeholder management, and strategic alignment with organisational goals, when planning and designing your healthcare facilities’. It will introduce the medical basis for the concept categories, along with design and construction strategies to create healthy buildings. IHEEM said: “The time has come to elevate human health and comfort to the forefront of building practices, and reinvent buildings that are not only better for the planet, but also for people.”

Learning outcomes/specific course objectives will include: n Having sufficient competency to understand the basic principles, science, processes, and practices, of Health Facility Planning.

n Developing the basic capability in the application and practice of the subject.

n An overview of Health Facility Planning as a branch of Health Planning discipline.

n Learning about the foundation of standards and guidelines for Health Facility Planning.

n Applying briefing and schedules of accommodation.

n Reviewing masterplanning principles.

An online exam and an assignment will be conducted at the end of the training, after the successful completion of which the student will receive a Certificate of Continued Professional Development (CPD).

The course will be led by Aladin Niazmand, who has 32 years’ experience as a specialist health planner, has designed over 150 hospital projects in a wide range of disciplines, and was – IHEEM says – ‘largely responsible for the development of the new generation of Health Facility Guidelines for various countries across the globe’. He has taught on various aspects of health planning and hospital commissioning for over a decade. Aladin Niazmand is managing director of TAHPI, which describes itself as ‘one of the most prolific authors of International Standards and Guidelines for Healthcare Design customised for different regions of the world’. The company is also reportedly ‘the largest developer of software and web-based tools for healthcare service planning, functional briefing, supply capture, mapping, and equipment planning, for the entire healthcare industry’.

Live classes for maximum interaction

Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, the Health Facility Planning course will be delivered online via the Zoom platform from the TAHPI UAE Head Office. IHEEM said: “Unlike other online training, where the sessions are pre-recorded at the convenience of the mentor and used/played at the convenience of the students, this Health Facility Planning Course via Zoom is tied to a fixed schedule, with ‘live’ classes enabling maximum face-to-face interaction with the tutor. Direct interaction with the tutor is a prerequisite for this Health Facility Planning Course, considering the depth of knowledge and information passed on during the sessions over nine days. There are limited spaces on the course to provide individual attention.” IHEEM’s CEO, Pete Sellars, said: “Healthcare Planning is one of the many essential responsibilities that our personal and affiliate members actively lead or engage in within their roles as healthcare professionals. The current need for all healthcare organisations to identify future healthcare requirements at a strategic level – both nationally and locally as part of future capital investment plans – has never been more important. I am proud to launch IHEEM’s first interactive CPD-certified online training course. This internationally acclaimed programme firmly establishes the Institute’s commitment to support the development of healthcare professionals to better understand the complex journey of Healthcare Planning.”
