IPS AND CLADDING SOLUTIONS

Taking wall protection and IPS design to new heights

Alan Green, Projects Director at BioClad, explains how the specialist in high-quality, ‘hygienic’ wall cladding solutions has recently introduced a number of new products, such as BioAcute and Raphael – the latter designed with a ‘collaboration partner’, and is in the process of relocating to a larger facility close to the company’s head office in Harrogate. It all – he says – points to ‘a very positive future’, with plans for expansion and further new designs.

The world’s first antimicrobial modular integrated plumbing system (IPS) was originally manufactured by BioClad in 2017. This significant development allowed healthcare services and other organisations to dramatically reduce microbial growth within their washrooms and other ‘clean’ areas. Following extreme high demand from the early stages, it was decided to market the product under its own exclusive banner, which saw the launch of BioPod. Since its introduction, the BioPod unit has increasingly developed in all design, construction, and installation aspects. The quality unit we offer is prefabricated, factory assembled, and tested for adequate strength resistance prior to leaving our manufacturing facility. The lasting quality of our units confirms our position as the experts in the field of manufacturing and supplying IPS units of all types. All units are constructed with a view to facilitating integration of various plumbing components into a single and compact unit that includes pipes, pumps, valves, filters, and control systems.

Silver-ion antimicrobial technology The BioPod IPS unit features a design that utilises silver-ion antimicrobial technology to inhibit microbial growth. Microbes that come into contact with BioPod units are instantly suppressed, and 80% eradicated within 15 minutes of contact. This eradication rate increases to 99.99% after just two hours. Alongside their hygienic qualities, BioPod IPS units feature an 18mm closed-cell PVC BioCore. The use of closed- cell technology ensures that the units are 100% waterproof, and insusceptible to rot and water damage. Using 18 mm PVC, meanwhile, ensures that they are durable, rigid, and made to last. We have full confidence in the manufacturing qualities of our in-house workshop, and offer a 25- year warranty on all of our IPS units. Hygienic environments play a significant

and architects to continue with the development of our already market- leading product.

Bespoke manufacture of BioPod IPS units BioPod originally worked with preferred partners for the manufacturing phase of our IPS units. Although supply was consistent, we reached a stage where this method of supply was holding back our future development plans. We therefore set up and launched our own specialist in-house manufacturing facility in 2021, at a location on the outskirts of York. This adjustment in manufacturing methods allowed for greater capabilities in the design and build of each model. The facility has proven to be a huge success, and provided our clients with improved products and reduced delivery lead times. With the manufacturing facility proving

to be so successful, we are currently in the process of relocating to a larger facility close to the BioClad head office in Harrogate. This will allow BioPod to handle

larger orders going forward, and reduce delivery lead times even further. In the ever-evolving landscape of

construction and building technology, IPS units have emerged as a ground- breaking solution that combines efficiency, sustainability, and convenience, in the realm of plumbing infrastructure. With the global push towards more sustainable and smart building practices, IPS units have swiftly gained prominence for the ability to revolutionise the way we design, install, and manage, plumbing systems within modern structures. The BioPod IPS units are designed to

make optimal use of the available space, while by eliminating the need for on- site assembly of numerous plumbing components, construction timelines are significantly reduced. This results in shorter project completion timescales and reduced labour costs, and minimises disruption to other construction activities. Key features and characteristics include:
