Essential Safe Systems of Work and Technical Compliance Training

In recent years, and throughout 2022, PPL Training’s course programme has expanded to encompass emerging disciplines within Healthcare Estates and Facilities Management. Here are just some of the newest additions and developments in PPL’s ever-widening curriculum.

Addressing Fire Safety

In early 2022, PPL Training launched a full suite of fire safety management and technical awareness courses, designed to provide those who are responsible, with the skills and knowledge to be able to effectively manage, assess and understand fire safety measures in their buildings.

With purpose built practical training facilities in York, PPL Training aims to deliver hands-on practical learning to delegates who might not otherwise benefit from seeing elements of fire safety up close. Perfectly accompanying the survey and inspection training courses on offer, PPL’s facility in York houses installations of fire and smoke dampers in various wall thicknesses and materials, as well as the same for fire stopping products. The whole facility is then surrounded by a mock escape corridor used for practical assessments and demonstrations, which shows typical layouts and installations in healthcare premises, commercial office buildings and industrial warehouses.

Works are now underway on replicating this level of detail and providing the same delegate experience to those attending the Slough Campus, whilst smaller, portable solutions are in the works for the Livingston Centre, with the aim of making the fire safety training offer as accessible as possible to delegates across the UK.

Medical Gas Training

Investment in 2020/2021 of around £850K in HTM compliant Medical Gas and Ventilation facilities in both York and Slough has ensured that the competency of delegates attending Authorised Person and Competent Person training courses has continued to increase.

Highlighting Heliports

2 new courses that have recently landed on the course programme for 2023 focus around heliports visual aids principles. Developed to ICAO and CAA standards addressing visual aids for onshore heliports and helipads. Additionally covering equipment, technology and best practices, as well as setting out in detail the design requirements for hospital heliports and providing guidance on their operation and management.

Ventilation Systems

Ventilation is used extensively in all types of healthcare premises to provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff. As an essential component of hospital operation, HTM 03-01 states that staff responsible for the running of ventilation systems should be adequately trained to the standard set out in the latest version of the HTM guidance.
