Athletics icon to speak at Wales Gala Dinner & Awards
Colin Jackson CBE will be the guest speaker and awards presenter at the IHEEM Gala Dinner Awards as part of the Wales Regional Conference 2024 in May (HEJ – February 2024). The renowned Welsh former sprint and hurdling athlete, ranked in the world top 10 for 16 years, was World No. 1 from 1992-1994, and was never out of the world’s top three for the last seven years of his career. From 1986 onwards, he set seven European, eight Commonwealth, and nine UK records at 110 m hurdles, and still holds the World Record over 60 m hurdles. An illustrious broadcasting
career has seen him feature widely as host, reporter, and pundit with the BBC sports production team. He now also works closely with a number of charities, including Fairbridge Cymru, Sports Relief, and UNICEF, and in 2012 launched the Red Shoes Academy, in partnership with the Welsh Government Department of Education and Skills, leading elite sports ambassadors into Welsh schools and colleges to inspire the next generation. IHEEM CEO, Pete Sellars, said: “It’s an honour to have Colin joining us as the guest speaker and award presenter for
our Gala Dinner, and everyone at IHEEM is very much looking forward to hearing more of his story.” IHEEM and NHS Wales Shared Services
Partnership, Specialist Estates Services are joining together to deliver the annual Wales Regional Conference, Exhibition, and Gala Awards Dinner on 28 and 29 May. The event is taking place at The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, with the conference and exhibition being held in the International Convention Centre (ICC), and the Gala Dinner in the Celtic Manor Hotel.
Apprentice affiliate joins IHEEM at ‘an exciting time’
Cal Corkery, an Apprentice Healthcare Engineer at Southern Healthcare NHS Trust, has recently joined IHEEM as an Apprentice Affiliate Member. He said: “Having recently started an apprenticeship in healthcare engineering for an NHS Trust, I was keen to join IHEEM to contribute to the specialist professional body for our sector. It is an exciting time to join the sector, particularly with the pressing challenges of adapting healthcare estates to meet Net Zero requirements. Outside of work I am an elected city councillor for a deprived inner city ward, and have a real interest in the relationships between health, wellbeing, and the built environment, so I am looking forward to deepening my knowledge and skills around these issues through my apprenticeship and beyond.”
