INSTITUTE NEWS

Places still available for this month’s Net Zero roadshows

There is still time to register to attend the IHEEM/NH Power Net Zero Roadshows this month.

Building on the success of the Net

Zero Workshops held at the IHEEM Healthcare Esates 2023 conference, the Institute is delighted to support a second series of planned workshops, and would encourage members to participate in their local roadshow – the first of which were held in January 2024. IHEEM CEO, Pete Sellars, said: “The

roadshows provide a unique opportunity to gain insights to site-specific financial models in relation to geothermal and hydrogen, combined with proven energy technologies. IHEEM is committed to taking a lead role in supporting its members and the NHS in meeting their Net Zero goals, and is part of the collaborative advisory committee that is actively working on and finding new effective and innovative solutions to support the NHS in this crucial endeavour. Don’t miss the chance to further understand and explore innovative solutions for delivering your site-specific Net Zero options.” Details of the remaining roadshows

are on the Net Zero programme website: www.nhpower.net The dates and locations for the

February events are: n East Midlands – 7 February in Peterborough.

n North East – 15 February in Durham. n South East – 22 February in London. n Leeds – 28 February.

Registration Each event has been set up for approximately 30 attendees, and the registration process is via the short form provided via the link below. If there is capacity, you will then be invited to attend: https://forms.gle/bmV4SpdsLQ56prU7A Please register early, as it will take

approximately a week to process applications. Attendees will be emailed four financial models on a spreadsheet before the day, one each for the main routes to Net Zero (Geothermal, H2, District energy, or heat pump) for their hospital, based on a large database of up-to-date NHS energy project costs, and a small amount of information supplied by attendees when you register. The model will be the attendee’s to keep, and should be very helpful in costing a NHSE Net Zero plan. The model is in the form of a

populated spreadsheet which you can take away and use to compare the available routes to Net Zero, and their implications financially, for your hospital’s Net Zero plan. The agenda of the three-hour

workshop is planned to be: n A recap of the four main routes to Net Zero (geothermal, qualifying district heating (Energy Act), hydrogen, and heat pumps).

n Explanation of the financial Net Zero model spreadsheet

and how to use it (users must bring their laptops and the spreadsheet model we will distribute by email before each roadshow with their invitation to attend).

n A review of the financial and carbon impact of a geothermal route to Net Zero if available for your site.

n A review of each of the other three routes to Net Zero in turn.

Attendees will be able to register multiple times if they wish to obtain a financial model for multiple sites in their Trust. Please note that the financial model is currently only tested for sites using more than 5m kWh of heat per annum, but we will try and accommodate smaller sites as data best allows.

All the videos of the talks last August and September are on the www.nhpower. net website, together with a short video from the IHEEM workshops last year. In due course the roadshow slides will be added to this shared resource.
