Overall attendance at IHEEM’s flagship conference and exhibition, Healthcare Estates, reached record levels in 2023, with over 5700 visitors attending the event last October at Manchester Central across the two days.
The 2024 Conference Planning for this year’s event is now fully under way, and IHEEM is delighted to announce the overarching title and the five key themes for the 2024 conference. Healthcare Estates 2024 will be entitled ‘Embracing the Challenges’, with the following five key themes: 1 Strategic Health & Social Care Planning: How can the estates and facilities profession effectively support and influence the delivery of the Integrated Care Systems’ future strategic planning requirements?
2 Governance, Assurance & Compliance: How can we ensure that healthcare estates services and critical functions relating to patient safety are compliant, and appropriately managed, to meet the increased governance in national policy and the legislative requirements of governing bodies such as HSE and CQC?
3 Digital Technology & Innovation: What are the key issues impacting the estates and facilities profession in adopting and implementing digital technologies in both the existing estate and the healthcare built environment of the future?
4 Medical Engineering & Healthcare
Engineering: What are the technical, specialist, and scientific challenges that need to be addressed to ensure that future medical engineering and healthcare engineering services are designed differently, particularly in relation to the areas of ventilation, water safety, infection control, and infrastructure resilience?
5 Estates & Facilities Services: How can the estates and facilities profession continue to deliver high-quality healthcare services and functions to patients as personnel face increased and conflicting challenges of capability, capacity, and efficiency, particularly around finances, workforce, and the Net Zero carbon agenda?
Keynote presentations for each of the five key themes will also take place over the two days, with Healthcare Estates 2024 taking place on 8-9 October 2024 at Manchester Central. IHEEM CEO, Pete Sellars, said: “The key themes this year echo those from 2023, as they are more relevant than ever, and have the greatest impact on everyone working within our profession. We had a record number of submissions to our Call for Papers in 2023 across all of our key themes, which was a clear endorsement that there is much to learn and discuss around these complex topics. We are now developing the five keynote sessions, and I am looking forward to seeing the submissions from those who wish to take part in the conference this year.”
