TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Updates
The Authorising Engineer Conference 2025 The 2025 Authorising Engineer Conference, hosted by IHEEM, brought together healthcare engineering professionals from across the UK who are responsible for upholding safety, compliance, and best practice, within healthcare engineering systems. Held at Epsom Downs Racecourse on 8 July, the event was formally opened by IHEEM CEO, Pete Sellars, who emphasised the vital role that Authorising Engineers play in safeguarding patient care environments, and ensuring the resilience of healthcare infrastructure. The CPD-accredited conference offered a comprehensive programme of
knowledge-sharing and professional development. Delegates benefited from expert-led presentations and technical updates, enabling them to stay up to date with regulatory requirements. Representatives from IHEEM’s Technical Platforms – including Decontamination, Electrical, Fire Safety, Medical Devices, Medical Gas, Mechanical, Ventilation, and Water, provided valuable insights into their ongoing work and outlined future initiatives. The event also saw the official launch of the IHEEM Authorised Person (AP) List, and included updates from IHEEM’s COO, Tania Davies, on the enhanced MyIHEEM CPD recording system, which is designed both to promote and document professional recognition, and support continuous learning. Delegates also had the opportunity to visit the exhibition area to explore new products and services, and network with peers and industry professionals.

Tom de Ronde – AE (W), said: “Fulfilling the entrance criteria, and completing the application process and the panel interview, was a rigorous, challenging, and very positive experience. I found the process most robust and without equivalence in the industry. I now look forward to contributing to the IHEEM Water Technical Platform, whilst continuing to support clients within the sector, as well as pursuing my own learning and development. At Equans I have the privilege of working with a talented group of multidisciplinary Authorising Engineers, whose expertise I shall continue to draw upon for matters unrelated to safe water.”
