JOCKEYS TO FOLLOW Jamie has yet to even ride a winner, but he
JAMIE POWELL Jamie Powell is less known but is one tipped by some good judges to make an impact this season. Apprenticed to that man Murtagh again, he will undoubtedly enjoy the correct guidance and tutelage.
hasn’t had that many chances either having had just 44 rides since he appeared on the track in 2019. A first cousin of Australian champion apprentice
Robbie Dolan, and son of the late Irish Grand National-winning rider, Anthony Powell, Jamie has the pedigree to match what many believe he has, which is simple raw talent.
FROM LEFTFIELD, DE BROMHEAD COULD MAKE HIS MARK AMONGST THE TRAINERS The game is not quite the closed ranks many believe it is in Ireland with the domination of all things O’Brien. In fact, I merely believe they are continually raising the bar for everyone else to follow and Ger Lyons and Jessica Harrington are most certainly chasing them down while many others are
achieving the maximum from the talent they have. Ken Condon’s return of 18 winners from 145
runners dragged him back to just behind the heights he achieved in 2012 and 2013 but it was his two-year-olds that flew the flag highest for him last term. No doubt he can’t wait for this season to begin but one other name, slightly from leſtfield, is Henry De Bromhead. Is there a chance he could be following Jessica Harrington’s lead? Perhaps not to the same extent, but he is certainly a man to factor into any calculations.
