NEWS Brands sign Global Commitment
Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF) has launched the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment in collaboration with UN Environment, which many global brand owners signed up to at the NGO’s Our Ocean conference in Bali in October.
EMF said the Global Commitment
targets include: eliminating problem- atic or unnecessary plastic packaging and move from single-use to reuse packaging models; innovating to ensure 100% of plastic packaging can be easily and safely reused, recycled, or composted by 2025; circulating the plastics produced by significantly increasing the amounts of plastics reused or recycled and made into new packaging or products. “Targets will be reviewed every 18
months, and become increasingly ambitious over the coming years,” said
EMF. “Businesses that sign the commitment will publish annual data on their progress to help drive momentum and ensure transparency.” Cereal and savoury
snacks maker Kellogg’s said it will work towards 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging by the end of 2025. It has been actively working with its suppliers to identify packaging designs that minimise waste. In Europe, it has started a project to move its cereal pouches to a recycle-ready material by late 2019. SC Johnson said it will triple the amount of PCR plastic content in its packaging by 2025. As part of this, SC Johnson said it will increase the

percentage of PCR plastic that it uses in its North American and European bottles from 20% today to 40% by 2025. At Johnson & Johnson
Consumer, Alison Lewis, Global Chief Marketing Officer, said: “We believe this initiative can be a powerful catalyst for driving meaningful changes in our behaviour as a company—as well as the behaviour of consumers themselves.”

Plastics recycling in Europe - Capacity, capabilities and future trends 2018
The plastics recycling industry is a complex, dynamic segment with a varied supply stream and value chain.
With prices of recyclate intrinsically linked to the price of virgin resin, demand and the financial viability of the process is often subject to fluctuations in raw material prices.
In the new report from AMI Consulting, you can gain a strong understanding of the new opportunities available to you such as:
• how developments in mechanical recycling technology are changing the shape of the plastics recycling industry
• increasing the ability to recover more plastics in a closed-loop, and helping to retain maximum value
