Rotation speed is 27 rpm at 50 Hz. Wittmann says the S-Max series models are specifically designed for the closed- loop recycling of sprues/runners from injection moulding machines with up to 300 tonnes of clamping force. Material throughput of 12, 20 or 30 kg per hour can be achieved, depend- ing on the model. S-Max units are versatile, mobile pieces of equipment which can be moved easily from one moulding machine to another. The design of the S-Max series takes into
consideration user needs and space requirements. The swivel outlet pipe of the granulator can be moved into various positions, making it easier to connect the flexible hose to the hopper loader. This is intended to make more efficient use of the floor space next to the machine. The slanted, front cut outlet pipe with adjustable airflow evacuates the regrind more efficient- ly and also avoids the blocking of the flexible hose. Also, good access to the cutting chamber from above is granted via the 90° tilting hopper to allow for easy cleaning. Wittmann points to other advanta-
geous features which come as a standard on the S-Max series. A sensor located underneath the cutting chamber provides visual and audible alarms to avoiding overfilling of the bin, and also to keep the cutting chamber free from regrind. The position of the sensor also means it has direct wiring to the electrical cabinet, plus the sensor’s head is not among the material, and it enables full inlet capacity of the bin. A second shaft above the cutting chamber is available for pre- grinding large sprues and parts, said Wittmann executives at Fakuma. been applied to granulators. The S-Max series has an interface which enables full communication with the injection moulding machine. As an option, a special shutdown function is available, so that when the injection moulding machine is “off”, the granulator stops automatically, helping saving energy.
Neue Herbold exhibited its large SM1000/600
granulator at Fakuma, which is part of a recent extension to its SM series that completes its upper range with machines that have a rotor diameter of 1,000 mm. The SM1000 series is designed for applications where a large throughput capacity is required or large and bulky materials are being granulated. The machines can be fitted with various types of feeding hoppers and devices as well as with various rotor geometries. Neue Herbold says this means that the SM1000 series machine can be used for a variety of applications, including films, lumps, purgings, profiles, pipes and thick walled parts, as well as for the size reduction of large and bulky products such as containers and boxes. A wet grinding version is also available. The Germany-based company says all its
granulators are equipped with the “double cross” cutting action. The inclined angle of both the rotor and the bed knives ensures a constant cutting gap across the entire width of the knives, it says. Tria, the Italian granulator specialist, showed its most recent development, the JS Series, among
