INNOVATION | PET RECYCLING

Right: Boretech’s Mega Aspirator Series sepa- rates labels, dust, and free-flowing impurities from PET bottle flakes

technologies include an integrated sink-float tank which separates worthless impurities from valuable cap materials which not only protects equipment, reduces cutter wear, and lowers maintenance costs, but also ensures the purity of cap materials allowing them to enter higher-value markets. Bariq, the first food-grade rPET producer in

Egypt, has announced the expansion of its opera- tions into Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone in its growth strategy. It currently recycles 1.6bn bottles per year, exporting 100% of its products to global players in the packaging sector. The new operation will function under the name

development and this capacity expansion consoli- dates its position in the ASEAN region. The same Boretech technology is being used in another major PET bottle recycling and washing project in the Green Renewable Resources Smart Industrial Park in Xinjin District, Chengdu, China. This facility, currently in the installation and commissioning phase, is expected to have a capacity of 40,000 tonnes/yr. Boretech has received a positive scientific opinion from the EFSA for the PET recycling process known as brtCOMBIPET which uses a combination of extrusion, preheating, and SSP. This system connects directly to existing PET production lines and shares key equipment and facilities, avoiding duplicate investment and significantly improving equipment utilisation. The compact, integrated design optimises space utilisation, enabling plants to create more value within limited space and the automated process reduces manual intervention, with only two operators typically needed to manage the entire system. Core

Creative Recycling, and will produce high-quality recycled pellets and flakes supported by advanced technologies and modern processing systems designed to meet international quality standards. The facility is expected to enhance Bariq’s opera- tional efficiency, enabling it to serve regional markets more effectively while contributing to larger circular economy objectives.
