Medical moulder B Braun creates 200 jobs in US

Germany-based medical moulder B Braun has invested US$20 million to expand and modernise a US medical device manufactur- ing facility in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The project is expected

to create at least 200 new jobs over the next three years and retain 1,704 existing positions. Pennsyl- vania is supporting the project with US$1.5 million in state funding. B Braun is upgrading the 710,000 sq ft medical device manufacturing

facility, which it says will enhance IV therapy, phar- macy admixture and compounding operations products. The company currently manufactures more than 2,400 medical devices and related prod- ucts at the site. “Here in Pennsylvania, we have the skilled workforce, high quality suppliers and business environment that enable us to manufacture medical devices used by healthcare providers across the US,” said Rob Albert, CEO of B Braun of America.

To support the project, B

Braun received a funding proposal from the Pennsyl- vania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) that includes a US$1m Pennsyl- vania First grant and a US$500,000 WEDnetPA grant to train its workers. To support the expan-

sion, B Braun is launching a workforce training centre at its Allentown site to central- ise training and skills development for all employees. https://www.bbraunusa.com

Vangest’s acquisition of Spanish mould producer Tecnomatrix last year. Geoff Payne, operations

Nissei expands into India

Japanese injection mould- ing machinery maker Nissei has selected a site for a new manufacturing facility in India. The company will build the facility at Sanand Industrial Estate in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The factory, almost 12,000 sq m in size, will sit on 35,000 sq m of land. Total investment for the

project is 1.5 billion yen (around US$10 million). Nissei aims to make 30 all-electric injection moulding machines per month, for an annual total of 360 units. Earlier this year, the company expanded US production at its plant in Texas – allowing it to assemble machines with clamping forces up to 3,000 tonnes. Before this, its largest model made here was 1,300 tonnes. Investment at the new US plant was equivalent to around US$32m. www.nisseiplastic.com

Plastics sales fall in Germany in first half

Germany’s plastics processing sector declined by about 1% in the first half of 2025 according to industry body GKV. Sales of plastic packaging fell nearly 4%

compared to the same period last year, while manufacturers of other plastic prod- ucts – including technical parts – fell nearly 3%. Sales by manufacturers of plastic construction products were flat, while semi-finished products (such as film and sheet) rose by nearly 2% after “significant sales losses last year”.

“The new federal government has so far sent contradictory signals to the economy,” said Oliver Möllenstädt (pictured left), managing director of GKV. “There is a lack of concrete reforms to relieve small and medium-sized enterprises of bureaucracy and high energy costs – and to reduce non-wage labour costs.” GKV says it wants the federal government to speed up reform to provide impetus for growth. www.gkv.de
