assemblies, where complex, injection-moulded geometries are used. “Medical-grade Amodel PPA gives customers a new option for devices that must withstand modern assembly processes,” said Natalie Dragunat, global marketing manager for healthcare at Syensqo. Medical-grade Amodel PPA is available for sampling, with commercial availability expected in 2026. Syensqo has also introduced White Radel – a polyphenyl sulfone (PPSU) for biopharma applica- tions, surgical instruments and medical devices – which it says is much whiter than traditional compounds. The new product combines PPSU’s mechanical
properties, including high impact strength in compliance with ASTM D6394-21a, with the bright white aesthetic colour often preferred for medical devices. It shows good stability in sterilisation processes as well as chemical resistance against harsh disinfectants. Its lack of Bisphenol-A (BPA) makes it a safe and compliant alternative to other white medical polymers. As a high-flow material, it is suitable for precise, efficient injection moulding of medical devices, says Syensqo.
Also in materials, Ottobock – which develops
prosthetics to restore mobility – has used a special bronze-filled polymer from Lati in a plastic bushing that enables smooth knee flexion. The compound, called Latimass SP11 RS-11 D040, is based on PA11 and heavily filled with bronze spheres. The chemical and physical nature of PA 11, combined with the properties of the metal particles, allows injection moulding of bush- ings with high self-lubrication properties and wear resistance. The bushings need to have a service life exceeding three million cycles.
