PC for E&E Avient has added to its portfolio of recycled-con- tent polycarbonate (PC) and PC blends for the electrical and electronics (E&E) industry. Initially launched in Asia, Avient’s expanded Edgetek recycled polycarbonate offer the perfor- mance of a traditional PC with a reduced carbon footprint based on the inclusion of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. The EMEA-available materials include PC and PC blends with 35-98% PCR content. This is in addition to 20-70% recycled content in previous grades, which all have mechanical properties comparable to virgin PC, it says. The new materials can be used in applications such as device enclo- sures, sockets and other aesthetic or structural E&E components.
“Sustainability is a key driver in the E&E seg-
ment, and this can help customers meet their environmental goals without compromising performance,” said Hermann Fuechter, senior marketing and product manager in EMEAI for speciality engineered materials at Avient. The portfolio includes unfilled and glass-filled
grades of rPC, rPC/PBT and rPC/ABS blends, with glass fibre content ranging from 10% to 30%. With colourability in most colours and shades, the materials are available as pre-coloured compounds or as natural grades. They can also be formulated for compatibility with existing tooling and process- es, minimising the need for requalification or new moulds.
High power Mavel Powertrain is using Ajedium and KetaSpire Peek – from Syensqo – in a high-voltage electric motor for a premium sports car manufacturer. The combination of Ajedium slot liners and slot wedges and KetaSpire magnet wire insulation help improve motor efficiency – supporting operations at over 800V – and thermal performance, said
Syensqo. The materials’ reduced thickness allows for more copper in the motor design, improving electrical output and thermal management. “This is an important stride towards increasing the viability and capabilities of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and hybrids,” said Brian Baleno, director of global business development and programme management at Syensqo.
PP in cars At K2025, Mocom will showcase a range of new materials, including some for electrical and electronic applications. Its new generation of Altech PP flame-retardant compounds achieve a UL94 V0 classification at 1.5mm and are free of halogens, red phosphorus and PFAS. They are designed for applications where electrical corrosion poses a risk. Typical uses include automotive battery-adjacent components such as covers and battery management systems.
