CHINAPLAS 2018 | EVENT PREVIEW
New Shanghai home for China’s high-growth show
The Chinaplas show has expanded and moved to a new venue to allow new space for new exhibitors. Injection moulding technology exhibitors are covered in this preview
Chinaplas 2018 takes place on April 24-27 in a brand new Shanghai venue – the National Exhibi- tion and Convention Centre (NECC) in Hongqiao. The annual exhibition, which rotates between the cities of Shanghai and Guangzhou, has faced the problem of space shortage at the Shanghai venue since 2012 due to the large growth in demand from exhibitors. Ada Leung, General Manager at show organiser Adsale, says: “By moving to the new venue, NECC, Adsale can fulfill the strong demand for exhibition space immediately. This relocation to the new venue is also good for the long-term development of Chinaplas.” The NECC is huge: with a footprint of 1.47m m², it is the largest single block building and exhibition complex in the world. The indoor exhibition area is 400,000 m², consisting of 13 large halls and three small halls. The design of the NECC is like a “blooming four-leaf clover”, centred on a commer- cial plaza providing numerous catering services. The total exhibition area at Chinaplas 2018 is set to be 340,000 m², a significant increase from 250,000 m² in Guangzhou in 2017 and 240,000 m² at the previous Shanghai venue in 2016. Exhibiting companies are estimated to reach 4,000 this year,

compared with 3,465 in 2017. Adsale is targeting visitor numbers at around 180,000 at Chinaplas 2018, up from 155,258 in 2017. The move to the NECC has allowed rationalisa-
tion of technology-themed halls: extrusion technol- ogy will be in the eastern part of the NECC, injection moulding in the west, and blow moulding in the south. Adsale is also arranging exhibits from similar categories in nearby locations, for example, “film technology and plastic packaging machinery” and “injection moulding technology and smart manufacturing equipment”. Even with the NECC’s larger capacity, oversub- scription for stands at Chinaplas 2018 has led Adsale to launch a “Young Tech Hall” which will gather together 350 new exhibitors from diverse fields. Leung says the Young Tech Hall helps visitors locate exhibitors and products by further segmen- tation and also brings to Chinaplas new companies and advanced technologies. Conferences at Chinaplas 2018 will cover Industry
4.0, Tech Talk, Medical Plastics Connect and CMF Inspiration for Design x Innovation. In addition, more than 80 technical seminars will cover materials and technology in automotive, E&E and other sectors.
