Americhem’s new facility in Ribe, Denmark

designed for injection moulded products, Secret Sea-Grit is suitable for consumer goods and packaging applications in multiple markets. Materials supplier Americhem says its develop-

ment teams are continuously working on new technologies that can aid in new or existing polymer applications. A good example is the high chroma colour palettes that use Duramax, in combination with appropriate UV stabilisation, to create highly weatherable chromatic colours for long-term outdoor exterior applications. These high chroma palettes are backed by 5,000 hours of accelerated weather testing per ISO 4892-2, which is done in-house at Americhem’s headquarters in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The masterbatch is used in polyolefins and polyamides, but can be formulated for other resin families. Another example is Americhem’s next genera- tion polyamides that use proprietary technology to provide melt stable resins offering high chromatic colours with good colour stability. These products

have a lower viscosity that aids with complex injection moulding processes, have better mechan- ical properties for glass reinforced products, and provide better pellet quality. New applications include heat stabilisers for polyamides, colour masterbatch for glass-filled polymers, special effects masterbatch, cellulose-filled masterbatch for large structural parts, and high flow TPE for automotive mats. Regarding the ongoing sustainability theme, Americhem says its patented cold pounding process reduces electric and water consumption because the additives and colour coat the resin at a lower temperature rather than compounding them in using traditional methods. Similarly, the com- pany’s modified polyester uses a dye enhancer technology which reduces electricity and water consumption and is more cost effective based on the let-down ratio and the amount of dye needed. Americhem also offers Balance, additive master- batches that address compostability, renewability, reusability, and degradability, and are used in applications such as packaging and fibres. Americhem’s latest development comes in the

form of a 1,400 m² clean compounding facility in Ribe, Denmark, dedicated to engineered com- pounds as well as colour and functional additive masterbatch. The company is currently serving healthcare markets that include medical devices and hearing aids, which it will continue to expand throughout Europe. The facility is RECS Certified and draws all its electrical needs solely from wind and solar power. At K2022, Ampacet introduced ProVital+, a medical grade white and colour masterbatch series
