Making a mark: latest in printing technology
Recent advances in printing include a new optical inspection system, two flexo press installations in India and how two gravure presses helped a Turkish packaging company

Packaging says installing two RS 6003 gravure presses from Bobst has helped it to expand printing capacity and upgrade production speed. Founded in 1988, the company makes a range
of flexible food packaging applications, such as Doy packs, flat bottom and Quadro bags, single and double twists, flow packs, and recyclable, blister, and peelable packaging.
Adding the two new eight-colour machines
raised capacity by 40% to a total of 18,000 tonnes/ year. They offer a maximum running speed of 500 m/min and can work with both water- and solvent- based inks. The high level of automation and connectivity ensure high process reliability and productivity, it says.

Buying two identical gravure presses, which
provide identical printing quality, offers increased flexibility in planning and guaranteed job repeat- ability. A major benefit is the ability to share machine parts, printing cylinders and ink trolley, adding production efficiency and cost savings. Operators also find it easy to move from one machine to the other. A short web path and accurate register control system help the company to cut both waste and costs.
