fusion process to demonstrate traceability, joint consistency and quality – as well as GPS stamping of fusion locations.


Mitre fusion McElroy also recently launched the Polygon – its first manual butt fusion machine that is compatible with its DataLogger. Polygon is a multifaceted machine for


mitre, butt and socket fusion of PP pipe. Its zero- to 45-degree mitring options are designed to meet the complexities of mechanical piping installations and retrofits, saving time and costs on purchasing moulded or fabricated fittings.

With its lightweight and simple design, Polygon is aimed at tie-in fusions in confined spaces and fusing overhead. It adapts easily to socket fusion by swapping out the jaws with an optional Spider 125 Series 2 Adapter Kit. A stable base makes this versatile machine ideal for pre-fabrication and benchtop use. Features include: mitre and butt fusion for 63-160mm (2-6in) PP pipe; socket fusion capability for 63-125mm (2-4in) PP pipe and fittings; adjust- able, pivoting pipe support to keep pipe level in the jaws; and an easy-to-view pressure gauge. Separately, its Acrobat 315 is helping meet demand for larger PP pipe fusion capability up to 315mm (12in) while offering low- and high-force options for PE pipe. The compact machine works as easily indoors – in tight work spaces – as it does outdoors in small trenches, says the company. “We are working to build on these innovations


as we grow the Acrobat line for larger pipe sizes,” said Jason Lawrence, director of product develop- ment at McElroy. The Acrobat 315 can be paired with two

maximum system pressure desired. There are two options for carriage pressure configurations: low force, for fusing in low-drag situations or with thinner-walled pipe; and high-force, for fusing in high drag and vertical applications.


Taking it easy The EasyWeld110 from HSK of Germany is a plastic welding machine for heating element butt welding of PE, PP and PVDF pipes and fittings from OD 20 to 110mm. The basic machine has two large aluminium basic clamping tools that swivel up to 15° on each side for the fabrication of segmented bends. By screwing in four small reduction inserts, a double clamping is obtained at the smaller diameters. For fittings with short legs, a small fitting clamping tool is available. The special construction of the pressure build-up device allows the machine to be fixed directly at very short pipe ends on walls and sheets. Because it is light and compact – with both horizon- tal and vertical motion – the machine is suited for use in the pipeline system and for installation work. In stationary use, it can be fixed in the vice or at the table support. The light and compact manual planer is operated using a ratchet. The electroni- cally controlled heating element, which complies with DVS 2208 (220 V/600 W), has a working diameter of 140mm, an anti-stick coating and control lamps for system and interval checking.
