Right: Plastics App has worked with UBQ, which has developed a patented process for converting unsorted municipal waste into a polymeric material
Plastics App has also worked with UBQ, which has developed a patented conversion process for unsorted municipal waste. Plastics App collabo- rated to develop a supporting formulation of UBQ for use in injection moulding, extrusion, film production and 3D printing. It said it has developed a formula that significantly reduces the carbon footprint while preserving the compound’s func- tional properties. The material can be produced in the form of filament or pellets for 3D printing.
worked with Balena which is developing biode- gradable elastomers primarily for the fashion and durable goods industries. Its product, BioCir, is a bio-based, compostable material (certified 50%- 80% bio-based and 100% compostable), but none of the existing biodegradable materials are flexible. Plastics App said that with its solution, “flexibility can now be achieved in 3D-printed geometries, and more”.
