incubator. Last May, BASF’s Chemovator invested in Heartland, building on an existing partnership between Heartland and BASF’s North America Open Research Alliance. Almond said that the program provided opportunities for guidance and mentorship and revealed new ways to drive impact for industrial uses of hemp in other areas in addition to performance materials.
Multi-phase filler Georgia, US-based Sawgrass Sustainable recently developed eco-flow, a multi-phased, microcrystal- line cellulosic filler system for thermoplastics that is designed to create controlled visual patterning on the surface of moulded parts. The company is currently providing fully formulated compounds and working with mould makers to determine optimal processing to produce consistent pattern- ing, said Jon Buchan, a Managing Partner at Sawgrass Sustainable. The two-part system is based on process and material factors such as velocity, density and lubricity of the phases. It is being used in consumer products, such as flowerpots, where it provides good results, and is in the commercial-trial stage in automotive applica-
