Moyuum chooses Syensqo

UN database aims for clarity in plastics trade
UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has launched an expanded database that it said brings a new level of transparency to global plastics trade.
“By showing how plastics and substitute materials move through trade, these databases help govern- ments align trade policies with environmental action for people and planet,” said Chantal Line Carpentier, head of the Trade, Environ- ment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development Branch at UNCTAD. Designed for policy
makers, recyclers, brand owners, and investors, the platform aggregates customs records into harmonised indicators covering polymer types, primary forms, semi-finished goods, and selected products, providing comprehensive data on global trade flows. The database tracks
imports and exports by economy and partner, enabling users to map supply chains, quantify
virgin resin price cycles, and assess the effectiveness of waste trade controls. UNCTAD said that by
disaggregating HS codes into plastic-specific catego- ries, it clarifies trends that were previously obscured within broader groupings allowing analysts to com- pare time series, calculate unit values, and identify trade corridors. Until recently, trade data played only a small role in environmental debates, limiting policymakers’ ability to effectively respond to issues, but the widespread
adoption of the database promises to overhaul the system and provide a consist- ent, reliable source of data. UNCTAD has paired the
data with interactive dashboards and open downloads. It said that by standardising how plastics are counted in trade statistics, the database helps turn customs declarations into strategic assets for faster market assessments and clearer risk signals. Updates are scheduled annually, aligned with official customs releases. �

New distribution deals for Formerra
Materials supplier Formerra has announced an agreement with Geon Performance Solutions designating it the preferred distributor of Foster medical compounds in Europe, adding to the existing distribution agreement that Formerra already has for these materials covering markets in North and South Americas. Separately, Formerra has also announced an expanded distribution agreement covering the US and Canada that brings Evonik’s CARE
brand into its medical portfolio, creating new access points for high- performance polyamides used in healthcare applications. The arrangement integrates high-performance Vestamid and Troga- mid polyamide materials into Former- ra’s portfolio for applications such as fluid handling, drug delivery, and device components. �
