At Kigali Farms in Rwanda, cultivating mushrooms is a labour-intensive process (see article page 40), illustrated by workers pushing wheelbarrows with compost between tunnels, and the quite original way in which straw is weighed; by attaching a scale to a stick held in the air by two people. All this is not a problem though, as hundreds of people from the surrounding villages find employment and a decent income this way at the farm and compost yard.
