Trial by fire CASING SOIL
On 5 November, a major incident occurred at the production site of Kekkilä-BVB in Wanssum. A huge fire caused extensive damage to the buildings, but thanks to swift intervention by the team and the regional fire service, no injuries occurred. Moreover, production and delivery of casing soil continued through immediate collaboration with supply chain partners.

Gielen (Sr. Marketing Manager) share how the company and its partners tackled the crisis head-on, and how every effort was - and still is - being made to ensure continuity of casing soil deliveries.
The fire At just after 6 pm on Wednesday 5 November, the fire alarm sounded at Kekkilä-BVB’s production site on Geijsterseweg, followed by a power outage. One of the three halls - built
less than three years ago and housing critical facilities such as electrical installations and packaging lines - was filled with smoke. Employees evacuated safely and alerted emergency services. The blaze spread very rapidly and the fire services who attended soon had to scale up to a ‘multidisciplinary incident response plan’. Local residents were warned to close windows and doors due to the massive smoke development. The efforts of numerous fire services from the region, and the deployment of equipment including a fire extinguishing robot and a drone unit, helped prevent even greater damage to the other two halls.
