especially to find - and hold on to - the right people. That has become even harder these days.” It’s remarkable to currently find someone wor- king for one company for so many years, but for Hubert, that was never an issue: “The job was always challenging, always something new, and if you want to build, develop something, you need time, long-term commitment. Further- more, I made many friends in the industry.” Although the mushroom industry as a whole encounters many challenges, Hubert sees many opportunities as well. “The biggest concern really is the food industry, and mushrooms as just a commodity within that industry, especi- ally when the consumers have less to spend. On the other hand there are many new opportuni- ties as well, for growth of the specialty varieties for example, or alternative use of mycelium.” He will retire at the end of this year and divide his time between Burgundy, where he comes from (‘a region for truffles and wines!’), the Alps, where he has family, and Vendôme, where he lives with his wife. “I want to thank all my colleagues and customers I met during the years, and wish the team and its new GM good luck.”
