Stratmann in Lohne. As usual, in addition to a series of lectures, a company visit was part of the schedule. On Saturday, the mushroom cultivation company OM Pilze - part of the ELO Group - in Goldenstedt was visited.

n the first part of the lecture program, participants were given an insight into the Healthy Mushrooms consumer cam- paign and an extensive look back at the
ESSMI/HLP trip to China in the spring of 2024 (see Mushroom Business 124 for a detailed report). The new ZVG chairman Eva Käh- ler-Theuerkauf then spoke about the challenges for German horticulture (competition, high minimum wages).
Peat replacement This was followed by two presentations on peat replacement, a particularly sensitive topic in
the mushroom sector. “We will not be able to ignore black peat in the coming years,” said Eric Philipsen of Legro. Although there are suf- ficient raw materials available for the coming transition years (in the Baltic region), the com- pany is also working on alternatives. In Febru- ary of this year, Futuro covering soil based on champost was launched on the market and the first results are promising, according to Legro. Kekkilä-BVB has also launched an alternative on the market. Last year, 800 hectares of reed land was created in Finland. Research is currently being conducted into optimal use in growing media and the first minimum viable
